NATURE CONSERVATION
At Dithõlõ Lodge, our personal reward has always been to witness not only the wellbeing of our clients but also importantly the wellbeing of our animals through our passion for nature conservation.
We are a member of the Wildlife Ranching Association of South Africa and co-operate closely and adhere to the environmental regulations for nature conservation in the Limpopo Province and South Africa.
BREEDING PROJECTS
A full range of wildlife and birdlife breeding projects have been undertaken in the private nature reserve at Dithõlõ, namely Hippo, Buffalo, Rhino, Sable and Nyala.
These breeding projects have been very successful and a reward of the African bushveld. There have of course been times of concern during periods of drought but we have been fortunate enough to continue our work with the breeding projects, supplementing the feed and fortify with enriched feed to bolster their immune systems.
It was very exciting for us to introduce a unique breed in 2009 to the farm. We welcomed the White Blesbokherd which have relocated quite comfortably.
Our hippo family started as three, Mom, Dad and child who now are five. Dithõlõ would not be the same without the noises and snorts made by our hippo friends.
We started out with a male and female pair of Buffalo, since then the mother has had 2 babies. It has not been easy with her births. Our staff and vets have had to be on standby and assisting with the births. We have 2 new buffalos to show for all the hard work and patience put in.
